Ely (6 miles) occupying the largest island in the Fens has a history dating back to Hereward the Wake and later Oliver Cromwell. Its superb 11th century cathedral is surrounded by monastic buildings medieval gateways and narrow streets leading down to the marina and river walks. King's Lynn and Cambridge are easily accessible. Shops riverside inns and restaurants at Littleport (3 miles).
